On 5 March 2024 the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus adopted the Message to the President of the Republic of Belarus and the Houses of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus “On Constitutional Legality in the Republic of Belarus”.

The Constitutional Court exercises review of the constitutionality of normative legal acts in the state by means of constitutional proceedings in order to protect the constitutional order of the Republic of Belarus, the rights and freedoms of man and citizen guaranteed by the Constitution, to ensure the supremacy of the Constitution and its direct effect in the territory of the Republic of Belarus.

 

On July 18, 2024 the meeting of the President of the Republic of Belarus A.G. Lukashenko took place with judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus. The issues related to the implementation by the Constitutional Court of new powers provided for the updated Constitution were discussed at the meeting. Particular attention is paid to ensuring the implementation of the constitutional complaint to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens, interaction between the Constitutional Court and the courts of general jurisdiction, initiation of constitutional proceedings by authorised state bodies.

 

On 4 April 2024 the International Conference “The Supremacy of the Constitution: Constitutional Changes and Modern Development of Constitutional Review”, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus, was held in Minsk

The Conference was attended by delegations of the constitutional courts of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, as well as judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus, representatives of government bodies of the Republic of Belarus, prominent constitutional scholars.

The President of the Republic of Belarus A.G. Lukashenko sent greetings to the participants of the Conference.

The discussions focused on ensuring the supremacy of the Constitution, constitutionalisation of legislation and law enforcement practice, modern constitutional reforms and the role of constitutional courts in ensuring constitutional order.
