In the course of the meeting, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Mr. G.A. Vasilevich informed the guests about the most important issues that were subject to consideration by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus in 2006.
As regards the issue of harmonization of Belarusian and European legislation, Mr. G.A. Vasilevich passed an opinion that the Republic of Belarus, while forming its legal system, orientates itself to the standards of the Europe in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms. He also emphasized that the vector of development of Belarus and European states in this direction coincides therewith as a whole.
Mr. Hulshorster in his turn emphasized that the aim of activities of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation - by no means the imposition of Western way of thinking and legal doctrines. One of the main tasks of the Foundation is the assistance in organization of various arrangements in the process of which the experts of the Foundation have the possibility to familiarize their colleagues with different viewpoints on solution of one or another issue. In addition, Mr. Hulshorster underlined that the participants of the arrangements are free to perceive one or another idea, as well as whether to realize them in practice or not.
There were also discussed the issues of further cooperation between the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus and the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation.
In conclusion, Mr. Hulshorster expressed the words of gratitude for the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Mr. G.A. Vasilevich for the reception and was of a high opinion of the practical partnership of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation with the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus.
As a result of the meeting, a number of plans was outlined and the parties intend to realize them in 2007.
