The Belarusian campaign “We are Citizens of Belarus!” dedicated to the Constitution Day was held together with the Belarusian Republican Youth Union in the Constitutional Court. During the solemn ceremony Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Petr Miklashevich presented passports to 14-year-old young citizens – A grade students, participants of scientific and practical conferences, winners and prize-winners of republican Olympiads.

Addressing those present, Petr Miklashevich noted that on 27 February 2022 amendments and additions were made to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus at the republican referendum. The updated Constitution defines the principles and goals of the modernisation of the Belarusian society and state at the present stage.

The Constitution contains a separate article dedicated to youth. It determines that the State shall contribute to the spiritual, moral, intellectual and physical development of young people, create necessary conditions for their free and effective participation in public life.

The Chairman of the Constitutional Court paid special attention to the active exercise of the constitutional rights and freedoms, as well as fulfillment of constitutional duties by young citizens.

Petr Miklashevich paid attention to the new content of the concept of “duty” in the updated Constitution. Article 54 establishes that preservation of the historical memory of the heroic past of the Belarusian people, patriotism shall be duty of every citizen of the Republic of Belarus. This provision is a constitutional, social and moral guideline for the formation and education of real young citizens and patriots.

As Petr Miklashevich noted, the presentation of passports in a solemn atmosphere makes it possible for young people to feel the constitutional and legal connection with the country, to see what special attention is paid to youth at the state level.

The Chairman of the Constitutional Court expressed confidence that the young citizens of our country would bear the title of citizen with high honour and make their contribution to the development and strengthening of our beloved Belarus.
