Prior to the introduction of amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, a parity procedure for the formation of the Constitutional Court was established. Six judges were appointed by the President of the Republic of Belarus, six judges were elected by the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
The updated Constitution establishes the constitutional status of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly as the highest representative body of the people’s government of the Republic of Belarus.
In order to strengthen the independence of judges of the Constitutional Court, the right to elect and dismiss judges of the Constitutional Court was granted to the All-Belarusian People's Assembly.
