The Belarusian campaign “We are Citizens of Belarus!” was held together with the Belarusian Republican Youth Union in the Constitutional Court timed to the Constitution Day. During the solemn ceremony Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Petr Miklashevich presented passports to 14-year-old young citizens – A grade students, participants of scientific and practical conferences, winners and prize-winners of republican Olympiads.
Addressing those present, Petr Miklashevich noted that young people are the most active, creative and dynamic part of society. In a separate article of the updated Constitution, dedicated to youth, it is determined that the State shall promote the spiritual, moral, intellectual and physical development of young people, and create the necessary conditions for their free and effective participation in public life. As Petr Miklashevich emphasised, the potential of young people must be used in every possible way in the interests of the whole society, therefore, society also expects corresponding outputs from the younger generation.
The Chairman of the Constitutional Court paid special attention to the importance of knowing the text of the Constitution, respecting the principles and rules of the Constitution, exercising the constitutional rights and obligations, which is the basis of citizenship, patriotism of our young citizens, responsible attitude towards themselves, others, and their Motherland.
Petr Miklashevich proposed, starting next year, to organise and hold a Month of the Basic Law of our country on the eve of the Constitution Day. This will include round tables, dialogue platforms, conferences and other various events with the aim of a more in-depth understanding of the constitutional provisions by young citizens, so that the constitutional guidelines, goals and objectives are in their hearts and minds. By so doing, we will really be convinced that the constitutional goals and objectives defined at the republican referendum and enshrined in the updated Constitution will be supported by new generations, young citizens, and the Republic of Belarus will develop steadily.
On the eve of Constitution Day Petr Miklashevich congratulated those present on the national holiday and wished them to become worthy citizens of our country, successfully develop and contribute to the prosperity of the Motherland.
