On 19-21 February 2020 Deputy Chairperson of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Natallia Karpovich took part in the International Conference on the topic “Constitutional justice and the society’s reaction: when the solutions of the Constitutional Courts are in disagreement with the majority opinion of the society” held in Chişinău (Republic of Moldova)

The forum, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova, was attended by Mr Igor Dodon, President of the Republic of Moldova, heads and judges of constitutional courts from 14 EU and CIS countries, representatives of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission), international organisations, well-known scientists in the field of constitutional law.

The discussions covered issues of strengthening the independence of constitutional justice as a key element of a democratic state based on the rule of law, its influence on achieving balance and stability in socio-political development, and ensuring transparency in the activities of constitutional courts.

Deputy Chairperson of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Natallia Karpovich made a presentation on the topic “The role of the obligatory preliminary review of the constitutionality of laws in the establishment of the constitutional order”.
