On January 22-24, 2009 the first World Conference on Constitutional Justice has taken place in Cape Town (Republic of South Africa). The subject was «Influential Constitutional Justice: its influence on society and on developing a global human rights jurisprudence». Headed by the Chairman of the Constitutional Court Petr P. Miklashevich the delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus has taken part in it.

The Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Petr P. Miklashevich presented a report on the development of the constitutional control in the Republic of Belarus at the plenary session. The speech was dedicated the development of the world jurisprudence. Petr P. Miklashevich underlined that the Republic of Belarus participates in all international conventions on human rights and freedoms protection and it allows the Constitutional Court to apply them directly in its decisions. The international law accumulates the standards in human rights which the legislation and the judiciary practice of the various countries should conform.

During the World Conference participants shared the experience of the constitutional courts activity on the constitution supremacy safeguarding, strengthening of the protection of the constitutional rights and freedoms efficiency, influences of the constitutional justice on a society. As the result of the Conference the declaration was adopted in which the constitutional justice was named as the main element of development and realization of the base values, fixed in the constitutions which creates basis for the activity of the constitutional courts of the world.

During the Conference took place working meetings of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus with heads of the constitutional courts of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Romania, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Estonia, the Republic of South Africa, the Secretary of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, etc. The perspectives of the cooperation development, strengthening of contacts on the regional organizations level, strengthening of the information exchange between the constitutional control bodies of the different states were discussed.
