The summarizing of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus activity in 2008 took place. Chairman of the Constitutional Court Petr P. Miklashevich in his speech has characterized activity of the Court and its Secretariat in 2008, noted the positive side of the done work, specified available defects, focused on the actual problems demanding the decision, defined tasks for a current year.

The main result of the Constitutional Court activity in the past year became realization of the obligatory preliminary control of constitutionality of laws of the Republic of Belarus according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus of 26 June 2008 No 14 “On some measures on the improvement of the activity of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus”.

During 2008 the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus had adopted 124 decisions, where 102 – in accordance with the procedure of the obligatory preliminary control of the constitutionality of laws, and others – had the aim of perfection of the legislation of the Republic of Belarus, and the Constitutional Court and its Secretariat activity organization.

As the results of the analysis of the applications of citizens and the organizations the Constitutional Court has discovered some gaps in the legal regulation of some legal relations and has forwarded a number of propositions to the state bodies on the necessity of making an alterations and addenda to the normative legal acts in question.
