On 17 October 2019 an International Seminar “Constitutional Law in the Context of International Law”, organised by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus together with the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation, was held in Minsk

The seminar was attended by representatives of state bodies of the Republic of Belarus, the Court of the Eurasian Economic Union, scientific organisations, higher educational institutions and public associations.

Deputy Chairwoman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Natallia Karpovich, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Belarus Silke Bellmann, Director of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation Stefan Hülschörster addressed the participants with welcoming speeches.

Deputy Chairwoman of the Constitutional Court Natallia Karpovich, Judges Alla Bodak, Tadeush Voronovich and Sergei Chigrinov, Professor of the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law Matthias Hartwig, Retired Judge of the Federal Constitutional Court of the Federal Republic of Germany Michael Eichberger made their presentations.

The discussion centred on the relationship between constitutional law and international law, the role of constitutional courts in the interpretation and application of international law, implementation of the rules and principles of international law in national legislation and practice of constitutional justice, establishment of constitutionalism as the most important component of the state based on the rule of law, etc.
