On 18 September 2019 Chairman of the Constitutional Court Petr Miklashevich held a meeting with UNICEF Representative in Belarus Dr. Rashed Mustafa Sarwar

Dr. Rashed Mustafa Sarwar informed the meeting about the activities of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in the Republic of Belarus related to the protection of children's rights. He said that on the initiative of the UNICEF Belarus Office an interdepartmental working group had prepared a draft Concept for improving juvenile justice in the Republic of Belarus.

Petr Miklashevich noted that legislative mechanisms for the proper protection of the rights of minors have been continually improved on a constitutional basis in the Republic of Belarus. The Constitutional Court, while reviewing the constitutionality of laws, pays special attention to guaranteeing the effective protection of children's rights and the creation of appropriate conditions for their development.

Petr Miklashevich also thanked Mr. Sarwar for his active work in creating specialised centres to assist in the development of young children and in introducing international standards regarding the rights of minors.

As Chairman of the Council on Legal and Judicial Activities under the President of the Republic of Belarus Petr Miklashevich informed the meeting that the draft Concept for improving juvenile justice in the Republic of Belarus is planned to be considered at a meeting of the Council in the second half of October this year.
