Deputy Chairwoman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Natallia Karpovich took part in the 116th plenary session of the European Commission for Democracy through the Law of the Council of Europe (Venice Commission)
On 19–20 October 2018 the 116th plenary session of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) was held in Venice. Deputy Chairwoman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Natallia Karpovich took part in the plenary session as an associate member of the Venice Commission for the Republic of Belarus.
At this session, the Venice Commission adopted the opinions on the draft Law on the Legislative initiative of Citizens in Albania, on the draft amendments to the Electoral Codes of Armenia and Uzbekistan, on draft amendments to the Law of Romania on the statute of judges and prosecutors, on the Administrative procedure and justice code of Kazakhstan and on a number of laws of the Republic of Moldova, “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”, Morocco, Tunisia.
The Commission was informed on follow-up to the Opinion on the draft Constitutional Law on the Constitutional Court of Armenia, Joint Opinion on the draft Law of Armenia on Referendum, Opinion on the draft amendments to the constitutional provisions on the judiciary in Serbia. Some other issues of constitutional and legal significance were considered.
Deputy Chairwoman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Natallia Karpovich also took part in the joint meeting of the Sub-Commissions on the Judiciary and on Fundamental Rights.
Participation of a representative from the Republic of Belarus in the activities of the Venice Commission makes it possible to receive up-to-date information on constitutional and legal construction in European countries, modernisation of national legal systems and to inform objectively European colleagues about the constitutional and legal developments in the Republic of Belarus.
