The Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Petr P. Miklashevich took part in the XVIIth Congress of the Conference of European Constitutional Courts which was held on 29–30 June 2017 in Batumi (Georgia). The topic of the Congress was “Role of Constitutional Courts in Upholding and Applying Constitutional Principles”.
Chairmen and judges of constitutional justice bodies from 35 European countries, representatives of constitutional review bodies from Asian and African countries, the European Court of Human Rights, the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, well-known legal scholars participated in that international forum.
The Congress addressed issues related to the role of constitutional courts in upholding and applying constitutional principles, defining and using various constitutional principles in the legal system, the legal aspects of constitutional alteration and judicial review of constitutional amendments.
Petr P. Miklashevich made a presentation to the plenary on the topic “Role of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus in development and interpretation of constitutional principles”.
