Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Petr P. Miklashevich took part in the International Conference “Constitutional Justice in the 21st Century: Features and Ways of Development”

Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Petr P. Miklashevich took part in the International Conference “Constitutional Justice in the 21st Century: Features and Ways of Development” that was held on 11-14 July 2013 in Baku (Republic of Azerbaijan) dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Heads and judges of the constitutional courts from 15 countries (Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Moldova, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine, Croatia, etc.), the European Court of Human Rights, representatives of the Parliament and other state bodies of Azerbaijan took part in the mentioned Forum.

The issues of improvement of constitutional justice in different countries, the role of constitutional courts in protection of human rights, certain aspects of implementation of its powers by the constitutional review bodies were discussed at the Conference. 

Chairman of the Constitutional Court Petr P. Miklashevich informed the participants on the stages of the constitutional review development in our country, the particularities of the competence of the Constitutional Court in exercising the subsequent constitutional review, obligatory preliminary review of the constitutionality of laws, eliminating of constitutional legal gaps, implementation of individual’s right to indirect access to the constitutional justice. 

At the same time it was noted that the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus as a body of judicial power while exercising its powers secures the supremacy of the Constitution, protection of human rights and freedoms, implementation and development of constitutional values and aims in law-making and law enforcement.
