Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Petr P. Miklashevich participated in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Turkey, which took place on 25–28 April 2012 in Ankara and Istanbul.
The grand meeting devoted to the 50th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Turkey was held at the Congress Centre in Ankara on 25 April 2012. It was attended by representatives of the supreme bodies of state power of the Republic of Turkey, foreign bodies of constitutional control, the European Court of Human Rights.
On 25–26 April 2012 was held the International Symposium "Movements of Rights and Freedoms in the XXI Century and the Role of Constitutional Courts," devoted to the anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Turkey.
The forum was attended by chairmen and judges of the constitutional review bodies from over 57 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa and America. The burning problems of the place and role of constitutional review in a rule of law State, the values the role of constitutional courts in protecting human rights and freedoms, the efficiency of constitutional review bodies in exercise of their functions were under discussion.
In his intervention at the Symposium the Chairman of the Constitutional Court Petr P. Miklashevich informed the participants about the role of constitutional justice in mechanism for the protection of human rights in the Republic of Belarus, activities of the Constitutional Court to ensure the supremacy of the Constitution, its direct action, protecting human rights and freedoms. At that he emphasised that rights and freedoms of citizens enshrined in the current Constitution of the Republic of Belarus are fully consistent with international standards, and the authorities take the necessary measures for their full support.
The features of the constitutional control in different countries and ways to improve their implementation and prospects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation were discussed during the working meetings with colleagues from the constitutional courts.
