On April 16, 2010 in the Constitutional Court was held the meeting of Petr Miklashevich, Chairman thereof, with the President of the Criminal Court of the Supreme Justice Tribunal of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Eladio Aponte Aponte
Petr P. Miklashevich gave line to Mr Aponte on the composition, order of formation and competence of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus, subjects entitled to appeal to the Constitutional Court with a view to get an opinion on constitutionality of laws and regulations, as well as on the exercise of preliminary constitutional review of laws adopted by Parliament before they are signed by the President.
Mr Aponte told about the judicial system and its peculiarities in Venezuela, organisation, procedure of formation and powers of the Supreme Justice Tribunal of Venezuela. He noted that in the structure of the Supreme Court there is a Constitutional Chamber which consists of seven judges, hearing cases on the constitutionality of laws and regulations. Every year, in order to protect their constitutional rights and freedoms thousands of citizens refer to the Chamber. Mr Aponte said that at the present time much attention is given to the protection of socially vulnerable categories of citizens.
Following the meeting, there was noted the usefulness of contacts between judicial bodies of our countries and was made an agreement on the development of bilateral co-operation.
