On April 16, 2010 in the Constitutional Court was held the meeting of Konakuppakatil Gopinathan Balakrishnan – Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of India with the judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus.

On April 16, 2010 in the Constitutional Court was held the meeting of Konakuppakatil Gopinathan Balakrishnan – Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of India with the judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of India, Mr. Balakrishnan informed about the judicial system of India and practice of the Supreme Court of India on justice administration and resolution of some cases categories.

 

At this time the Supreme Court of India works in number of 31 judges. It has broad power and considers criminal, civil and administrative cases, class actions and cases on environmental issues.

The jurisdiction of the Supreme Court includes the consideration of constitutionality of laws and regulations, which may be initiated by the citizens in order to protect their fundamental rights and freedoms.

Each year, the Supreme Court imposes more than 50 thousand decisions, many of them have great public importance and concern the majority of citizens of India. Mr Balakrishnan gave several examples of such verdicts.

Following the meeting there was confirmed the necessity and willingness to promote bilateral co-operation in the field of justice.
