The Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Petr P. Miklashevich took part in the International Conference on «Ensuring the supremacy of the Constitution – the main function of the Constitutional Court» and the ceremonies to mark the 15th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova.

The Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Petr P. Miklashevich took part on 25-26 February 2010 in Chisinau, Moldova, in the International Conference on: «Ensuring the supremacy of the Constitution – the main function of the Constitutional Court» and the ceremonies to mark the 15th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova.

The forum was attended by heads, judges of constitutional courts and international experts from 14 countries – Albania, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, Croatia, etc.

At the plenary sessions were discussed issues of ensuring the supremacy of the Constitution and the role of constitutional control in this process, of individual access to constitutional justice, of guaranteeing the protection of human rights and freedoms, of correlation between the Constitution and international treaties.

At the plenary session Petr P. Miklashevich made a report about the stages of constitutional justice development in our country, procedural specialities and practical exercise of the obligatory preliminary review of the constitutionality of laws. This being emphasised that the exercise by the Constitutional Court of the obligatory preliminary control of the constitutionality of all laws is an indication of the constitutional justice role enhancement in establishing the supremacy of the Constitution, developing adequate legal mechanisms for application and protection of constitutional rights and freedoms, as well as of the balance of constitutional values and the establishment of system links and interdependences of law rules, of their security safeguard.

There took place a number of working meetings of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Petr P. Miklashevich with the heads of constitutional courts in Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova and Romania. Issues of cooperation in the exchange of experience in constitutional justice administration were discussed, the views commonality on key issues of the development of constitutionalism was emphasised.
