The meeting of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Petr P. Miklashevich with the Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria, member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe from the Republic of Bulgaria Evgeni Tanchev has taken place

On the 31 of March 2009 the meeting of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Petr P. Miklashevich with the Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria, member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe from the Republic of Bulgaria Evgeni Tanchev has taken place in the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus.

During the meeting it was noted much in common between the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus and the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria in particular in questions of the procedure of forming, its competence, work organisation etc.

Petr P. Miklashevich informed Mr Tanchev about powers of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus including the competence on the obligatory preliminary constitutional control of the laws adopted by the Parliament before signing by the President of the Republic of Belarus.

At the same time Mr Tanchev paid attention on the structure, competence of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria, practice of consideration of specific categories of cases, peculiarities of interaction with the subjects which can apply to the Constitutional Court.

It was emphasized that the quantity of the considered cases can not be defining criterion of efficiency of activity of the constitutional courts. Rather the small number of decisions testifies the political stability and balance between the branches of the state power.

In conclusion Petr P. Miklashevich and E.Tanchev noted fruitfulness and importance of contacts between judges of the constitutional courts and expressed the hope of continuation of cooperation in future.
