The event brought together representatives of state bodies and leading public associations in Belarus.
Opening the roundtable, Chairman of the Constitutional Court Siarhei Sivets noted the following:
“The development of constitutionalism in the Republic of Belarus is moving toward the steady expansion of democratic forms of citizen participation in the governance of state and society.
Thirty years ago, at the initiative of the Head of State, the first All-Belarusian People's Assembly was convened. During that difficult period, it helped find a way out of the political crisis, defined a development strategy for many years to come, and largely predetermined the constitutional and legal development of society and the state, culminating in the constitutional and legal reform of 2022.
As a result of the adoption of amendments and additions to the Constitution in the national referendum on 27 February 2022, a new architecture for the country's political system began to take shape. The All-Belarusian People's Assembly plays a key role in this architecture as the highest representative body of the people’s government, determining the strategic directions for the development of society and the state, ensuring the inviolability of the constitutional order, the continuity of generations and civil harmony”.
Noting the relevance of the event's program, which addresses issues of preserving national traditions, the continuity of generations, ensuring the inviolability of the constitutional order, and improving the quality of life, Chairman of the Constitutional Court directed participants to discuss problems and possible legislative amendments aimed at comprehensively implementing the provisions of the updated Constitution and creating the necessary legal mechanisms for implementing the constitutional principle of the people’s government.
Among key speakers were: Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus Olga Chupris, Head of the Secretariat of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly Valery Mitskevich, member of the Presidium of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly and Chairperson of the Belarusian Union of Women Olga Shpilevskaya, Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus Yuri Senko, Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans Sergey Smolsky, Secretary of the Central Committee of the BRSM Youth Union Aleksandr Davydovsky and Chairman of the Gomel regional organisation of the Belaya Rus public association Artur Putyato.
Each presentation was followed by an active and constructive discussion on ways and means of implementing strategic directions for the development of society and the state, the Socioeconomic Development Program, and the further development of civil society institutions.
The forum was organised by the Secretariat of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus, the National Library of Belarus, and the Belaya Rus public association.
